daCosta Cup semifinalists decided
Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Dinthill Technical and Glenmuir as well as Kemps Hill High advanced to the final four of the ISSA daCosta Cup competition on Saturday.
STETHS and Dinthill Technical advanced from quarterfinal Group B after playing out a 0-0 draw at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz, both ending the round on five points.
Glenmuir High came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Cornwall College to top Group A with seven points, one more than Kemps Hill High who edged McGrath High 1-0 at the Ewarton Sports Complex.
In addition to extending their run to the daCosta Cup semi-finals, the four teams also earned places in the first round of the ISSA Presidents Cup set to be played in January.
Meanwhile, the four teams that failed to make it to the semi-finals will now join the Ben Francis Cup at the quarter-final stages set for Tuesday- Cornwall College and McGrath High from Group A and Christiana High and Clarendon College from Group B.
In Montego Bay, Cornwall College needed a win and help from the other game. They took the game to leaders Glenmuir High who had a foot in the semi-finals after winning their first two games.
Cornwall were rewarded in the 21st minute when Shakeem Gibson finished off a good three-man move to fire past goalkeeper Justin Murray from close range.
Glenmuir responded in the 37th minute when Ricardo Binns pounced on a ball that was crossed from the right side and fired it past goalkeeper Carlyle Tingling from about four yards out.
Kemps Hill rode their luck into the last four as Shemar Daley’s second half goal took them to a win over McGrath High who lost all three games in the round without scoring a goal.
Kemps Hill had lost the first game in the three play-off rounds before rallying to win their next two games and advance.
