Atlantic Convoy pulls off thrilling win in Ahwhofah Sprint
IN a superb stretch run Atlantic Convoy edged out favourite Zulu Warrior by a neck to claim the $1.25-million Ahwhofah Sprint feature race at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
The well-ridden Atlantic Convoy, under Dane Nelson, got up just in the nick of time to beat Zulu Warrior (Raddesh Roman), with Miniature Man (Abigail Able) rounding out the top three.
Nelson’s patient ride took Atlantic Convoy from a tracking position to the front in the closing stages as Zulu Warrior’s early lead was slowly chipped away. The two horses, along with Miniature Man, battled down the stretch, with Atlantic Convoy emerging victorious in the end.
Trained by Patrick Lynch, Atlantic Convoy clocked 1:14.4 over six furlongs (1,200m) in the Overnight Allowance contest.
It was the second winner on the day for Nelson, who also won aboard Nebuchadnezzar for trainer Anthony Nunes in the fifth race.
Also with two winners on the 10-race card were trainers Nunes and Peter-John Parsard, and champion rider Raddesh Roman.
In addition to Nebuchadnezzar Nunes saddled Phenomenal Power, with Roman aboard, in the fourth race. Roman also won aboard Turnonthelight for Parsard in the third race for his double.
Parsard saddled We Jammin (Omar Walker) in the second race for his double.
The action continues with nine races today, starting at noon.
