Christmas Comedy Cook-up returns with ‘Laughter for Recovery’
Jamaica’s beloved Boxing Day tradition, Christmas Comedy Cook-Up, returns on December 26, 2025, with a renewed mission and an even fuller heart.
This year’s staging, aptly themed ‘Laughter for Recovery’, promises an unforgettable evening of Caribbean comedy while raising much-needed relief support for families displaced by the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, the unprecedented storm that ravaged several communities across the western end of the island.
What was almost a postponed event has now become a rallying point for national healing.
In the weeks following Hurricane Melissa organisers received several messages from long-time patrons: “Don’t cancel the show… We need the laughter now more than ever.” And so, in the true Jamaican spirit of resilience, unity, and humour, the show goes on — stronger, more meaningful, and firmly rooted in service.
The event organisers have pulled together a stellar regional line-up. The powerhouse cast of comedians represent the best of the Caribbean: Ity & Fancy Cat (Jamaica); Blakka Ellis (Jamaica); Kathy Grant (Jamaica); Pretty Boy Floyd (Jamaica); Leighton Smith (Jamaica); Dufton “Duffy” Shepherd (Jamaica); Simon Alleyne (Barbados); and Allan D’ Entertainer (Trinidad & Tobago).
These comedic icons will bring their signature Caribbean flavour “raw, relatable, and belly-busting laughter” to uplift Jamaicans during a time when emotional relief is just as vital as physical rebuilding shared organisers.
Part proceeds from this year’s event will directly support Hurricane Melissa relief efforts, in partnership with established charities, including Food For The Poor and Operation Love.
Additionally, 100 per cent of donations made through the dedicated SpurrOpen.com Donate Button will go directly toward assisting families who lost their homes, livelihoods, and essential belongings.
By attending the show or contributing through the donation portal patrons will help provide hope, comfort, and tangible assistance to those most affected.
For over two decades Christmas Comedy Cook-Up has been a staple of Jamaica’s entertainment calendar, drawing audiences from across the island and Diaspora. After 21 successful stagings since 2004, this year’s show finds deeper purpose in uniting entertainment with empathy.
“We know people are hurting,” said event producer and comedian Ity Ellis. “But laughter is a medicine gifted to us. We are using it to bring joy where there is heaviness and hope where there is despair. Boxing Day will be a night to remember — not just for fun, but for impact.”
Showtime is 7:30 pm at Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
