Cindy Rose wins 800m at US college meet
Former Holmwood Technical star Cindy Rose won the women’s 800m at the Iowa State University Holiday Invitational on Friday for her first win as a US college athlete.
Competing for Indian Hills Community College, the 2025 Carifta Games silver medalist ran a National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) indoor leading 2:16.84.
At the Washburn Alumni Invite a week earlier she was third in the 1000m in 3:02.01.
Her Indian Hill CC teammates Hector Benjamin and Jaquan Coke both had podium finishes while Kemmario Bygrave was sixth in the men’s 800m.
Benjamin, the former Jamaica College sprinter, won his section in the men’s 60m in 6.83 seconds, good for second overall, and he also ran 21.70 seconds in the 200m for second place.
Coke, the former Kingston College middle distance runner, was second in the men’s 1,000m, running a personal best 2:26.43, under the 2:27.98 he ran last year.
Bygrave, formerly of Jamaica College, was sixth in the men’s 800m, running 1:51.41.
At the Jimmy Grant Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa, former Edwin Allen High runner Leanna Lewis of Iowa was second in the women’s 600m, running 1:30.23.
Former Cornwall College athlete David Beadle of Hastings College started his final season of eligibility by placing fourth in the men’s weight throw with 15.62m and threw 11.97m in the men’s shot put at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic on Friday.
