Fun In The Son Christmas Treat set for St Elizabeth Dec 20
With the Yuletide underway, preparations are set for the Fun In The Son Christmas Treat at Nightingale Grove Baptist Church in St Elizabeth on December 20.
The free treat will feature live performances by Pastor Dorant Brown and his family along with Carlene Davis-Cowan, Orville Sutherland, The Leviticus Band, and Dave “Prime Time” Green and his band.
Organiser Tommy Cowan explained the significance of giving back to the community, especially after the devastation residents suffered during the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
“The location is where I went to school as a young child until the age of about 8 years old. A spiritual foundation it is, it was school Monday to Friday and church on Sunday. The Lord laid it on our hearts earlier in the year to stage a 2025 community engagement/Christmas treat at this significant location,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Children will be treated as VIPs at this event, as special preparations will be made to ensure their enjoyment.
“We are partnering with another organisation, The Love March Movement planning a treat for the children with gifts, activities such as face painting and other child-friendly Christmas offerings. Basically, a mini children’s village. If anyone wishes to contribute gifts, please contact us,” Cowan continued.
He further noted that he and his team are using resources from Fun In The Son to stage the treat. Phoenix Printery printed the flyers, while The Best Dressed Chicken supplied them with chicken for the earliest attendees.
The organiser is also encouraging Jamaicans to remain hopeful during this season of rebuilding.
“Well, for the first thing is that, in spite of what we are going through, this is a ‘yet’ moment. The book of Habakkuk 3, verse 18, says: ‘My crops did not bloom, my fields are empty, my cattle are gone, I am discouraged, defeated, depressed, all that has happened to us will not control our attitude. Yet I rejoice, especially in this season. Yet will I be joyful in God my Saviour, knowing that God is fighting my battles.’ Regardless of our circumstances, the Lord will see us through. If we lean on God’s strength, His presence will comfort us especially when we are reminded that He sent His Son to bring salvation,” Cowan said.
