KSAMC making preparations for orderly Christmas
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Vendors and taxi drivers operating under the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) are being asked to assist in making the Christmas season a smooth and safe one.
Speaking after the final vending subcommittee meeting for the year, Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby said the vendors are being asked to remain in their designated areas.
“We understand that we have issues on the ground with vending, vendors are vending in non-designated areas and we want to make sure that we keep the roadway clear so that vehicular traffic can run smoothly,” he said.
Swaby added, “You will expect that during the Christmas season you have seasonal vendors and more persons come downtown and in the shopping areas to shop and we want to make sure that persons in Kingston Central or whoever comes to Kingston Central to shop, they have a good experience.”
Taxi drivers were also part of the meeting and Swaby said, “We impress upon them to make sure that they conduct themselves in a proper way, and we are working with them trying to find parking areas for them so they can be much more disciplined on the road”.
Swaby warned seasonal vendors to register with the KSAMC, and said JPS has repaired several streetlights but noted that the police want additional non‑functional lights in specific areas fixed.
