Portmore United host Mount Pleasant FA as JPL resumes

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leaders Portmore United will host Mount Pleasant FA at Ferdie Neita Park as the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) continues today with four games scheduled.

Portmore United took over the lead from Montego Bay United after beating Waterhouse FC in mid-week, while Mount Pleasant FA, the newly-crowned Caribbean Cup champions are coming off their best result of the JPL season, a 5-0 thumping of Tivoli Gardens.

Also today, defending champions Cavalier SC will hope to rebound from their shock loss to Molynes United when they host Racing United at stadium east. Harbour View will play host to Molynes United and Dunbeholden FC will host Chapelton Maroons.

Portmore United are on a roll, winning both games played since the restart following hurricane Melissa and are expected to be tested by the three-time finalists who will be hoping their outburst against Tivoli Gardens was not a one-off performance but a sign that their fortunes are changing.

Games between Portmore United and Mount Pleasant FA tend to be close affairs and neither team have managed to score more than two goals in any games they have played against each other.

So far this season, both teams have been sound defensively, Portmore United only conceding seven goals in their 11 games played while Mount Pleasant FA have allowed six in their seven games played.

Mount Pleasant FA won two of their three meetings last season but Portmore United won their third round match-up and will hope to continue on their winning ways.

Daniel Green and Warner Brown both scored braces for Mount Pleasant FA against Tivoli Gardens and coach Theodore Whitmore will be hoping they can get on the score sheet today. At the other end, Portmore United’s coach Rudolph Austin has five players who have scored two goals each.

Meanwhile, Cavalier SC were surprised by Molynes United who were winning for the first time this season and first time against the defending champions and will hope to rebound immediately.

A win for fourth-placed Cavalier SC, on 16 points, would at least take them level with third placed Racing United on points but Racing United will have ambitions as they managed a win over Cavalier SC last season, the first time the teams met at this level.

Harbour View seem to have gained new life as under new coach Vassell Reynolds they have earned four points from their last two games, scoring nine of their 17 goals.

The ‘Stars of the East’ have also conceded six goals in their last two games and will face a Molynes United team that will be full of confidence after beating Cavalier SC on Wednesday. The teams have drawn six of their 13 games in the Premier League but Harbour View’s recent form and playing at home gives them the edge in the match up.

Two points and one place separates 10th placed Chapelton Maroons from Dunbeholden FC, both not too far from the relegation zone. Dunbeholden FC have scored just four goals in their eight games played, none coming in their last four games but will be going up against a Chapelton Maroons team that are winless over their last six games.

Todays’s games:

Dunbeholden FC vs Chapelton Maroons- Dunbeholden 3:00pm

Harbour View vs Molynes United – Harbour View 3:00pm

Portmore United vs Mount Pleasant FA – Ferdie Neita Park 3:00pm

Cavalier SC vs Racing United- Stadium East 4:30pm
