Another One takes spoils at Caymanas Park
IN a thrilling finish, Another One emerged victorious in the $1.25-million Charles Hussey OD Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Sunday. Another One edged out Commander Z by a nose in the Restricted Overnight Allowance contest over five furlongs (1,000m).
Jockey Dane Nelson’s strategy paid off as he held the Anthony Nunes-trained Another One behind the early pace, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Comehometome (Tevin Foster) had led the race ahead of Commander Z (Ian Spence), Mack and Rome (Shane Ellis), and Huntsman (Jaheim Anderson).
As they entered the final furlong (200m) Nelson sent Another One to the lead and the bay colt responded, hanging on for the win by the narrowest of margins. Huntsman finished third, as the final time for the race was recorded at 58.3 (23.1 x 45.4).
It was the second winner on the day for Nelson as he earlier won aboard Lion of Ekati for trainer Norman Smith in the sixth race.
Jockey Dane Dawkins rode three winners on the nine-race card to share in the celebration party. He won aboard Justin Bigtime and Margarita for trainer Gary Subratie in the fourth and eighth races, respectively, and Galopin De Veloz for trainer Louis Richards in the fifth race.
Racing is to continue next weekend, with action on Saturday and Sunday.
