Lukie D’s Missing You earns platinum certification in New Zealand
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Singer Lukie D says it’s important to put your best foot forward when recording a song, because it’s hard to predict when a song will become a hit.
The LUST member made the assertion in an interview with Observer Online on Monday, after learning that his 2005 hit Missing You Like Crazy, was certified platinum in New Zealand.
“I never had any idea that the song would have become a hit when I recorded it in 2005. Now 20 years later, the song has reached this milestone. As an artiste, you must always do your best when making a record,” said Lukie D.
Missing You Like Crazy is featured on the popular Old Skool riddim by Fi Wi Music Jamaica and produced by fellow recording artiste Courtney John.
Some of the other popular songs that are featured on the Old Skool riddim include Float Away by Rude, Do You Know by Mr. Vegas, When You Say by Courtney John and It’s All About Love by Jovi Rockwell.
The platinum certification for Missing You Like Crazy was issued last Friday by Recorded Music NZ, for sales and streaming equivalent of 30,000 units.
Lukie D shared the inspiration for the song.
“I know most people go through exactly what I sang about, so I thought, let me put it in words and music. That’s how the song came about,” said Lukie D.
He said the song’s success opened doors for him outside of Jamaica.
“I was able to tour the South Pacific because that’s where the song really took off and I worked with some of the best artistes from that side. I feel excited about this achievement because when you work hard and get this kind of achievement, it feels great,” Lukie D disclosed.
Born Michael Kennedy, Lukie D rose through the ranks honing his craft on local sound systems.
Among his hit songs are Centre of Attraction and Don’t Deny Me featuring Lt Stitchie. Used to Be My Girl, produced by Downsound Records, hit the charts in 2006.
