In a release on Monday, the Opposition expressed sympathy to Smith’s family, his colleagues at the RJRGleaner Communications Group and members of the wider media fraternity.

Opposition Spokesperson on Information, Nekeisha Burchell, speaking on behalf of the party, reflected on his contribution, describing Smith as a steady and thoughtful leader who brought clarity, professionalism and a strong sense of purpose to Jamaica’s media landscape.

She said his work demonstrated a deep respect for the role of the media in informing the public and strengthening democracy, adding that his passing represents a loss not only to his family and colleagues but to the country as a whole.

The PNP also joined the RJRGleaner Communications Group, the Media Association of Jamaica and the wider national community in recognising Smith’s contribution to Jamaica’s media sector.
