Prisoner charged with inmate’s death at Annotto Bay lock-up
ST MARY, Jamaica — A 23-year-old prisoner has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a fellow inmate during an altercation at the Annotto Bay Police Station lock-up on Saturday, December 6.
Charged is Nolando Atkinson, a construction worker.
Atkinson is charged with the murder of 34-year-old Eraldo Francis, otherwise called “Nagram”, a contractor of Tremolesworth, Highgate in the parish.
According to police reports, shortly after midday, a disturbance occurred among inmates housed at the facility. Police reportedly intervened to restore order, after which Francis was found unresponsive with stab wounds to the chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was launched into the matter, and Atkinson was later implicated, based on statements collected.
He was formally charged after a question-and-answer interview on Sunday, December 14.
His court date is being finalised.
