Man fatally shot during confrontation with Annotto Bay police, firearm seized
ST MARY, Jamaica — Police say one man was fatally shot during an incident along the Annotto Bay Main Road on Monday.
Reports indicate that police personnel were on patrol in Annotto Bay when they engaged a man who allegedly behaved in a manner that aroused suspicion.
The man reportedly produced a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the police. An officer responded by discharging his weapon, resulting in the injury of the man.
The injured man was transported to the Annotto Bay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was later identified as Nickel DeSouza, otherwise called “Odane”, a 37-year-old construction worker.
Police say a black and silver single action 9mm pistol with a magazine affixed containing 12 9mm rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) was notified of the incident, and investigations are continuing.
