Yard Mas Carnival unveils 2026 costume collection
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Yard Mas Carnival officially launched its 2026 costume collection, Galleria, on Sunday, presenting a fine-art-inspired showcase that transformed global artworks into vibrant designs for Carnival in Jamaica.
The theme was conceptualised by Yard Mas Director Richard “Richie Ras” Spence and guided by the creative vision of newly appointed Creative Director Anna-Lisa Guthrie.
Galleria showcases eight sections crafted by seven regional designers. The designs include Picasso by Designs by Dru (Jamaica); Venus & Dali by Anna-Lisa Guthrie (Jamaica); Ebony by Fonrose (Trinidad and Tobago); Monet by David Dewer (Trinidad and Tobago); Starry Night by Emma Aqui (Trinidad and Tobago), Frida by Lauren Austin from Aura (Barbados); and Basquiat by Yard Mas (a modern, editorial-style ode to Trinidad’s Monday Wear aesthetic).
In a cultural homage, Yard Mas introduced the Ebony section in honour of internationally celebrated Jamaican artist Ebony G Patterson, who is known for heavily embellished works that explore identity, visibility and the beauty within Black bodies.
Public Relations Director, Dania Beckford shared, “These are costumes created for movement, enjoyment and for celebrating the artistry of carnival. When masqueraders wear these costumes, they won’t just participate in another carnival; they inevitably become a part of the Yard Mas Gallery and their ‘collector’s item’ will be the memories on the road.”
Creative Director Anna-Lisa Guthrie reflected on the collaborative process behind this year’s artistry, stating, “Working with this extraordinary team of designers has been a celebration of imagination. Together, we studied brushstrokes, symbols and textures from the world’s great masterpieces; then we reimagined them for the road. I am proud of each design and the way in which the technical team was able to capture the soul of the theme.”
For the second time, Yard Mas launched its collection at Palace Cineplex. The presentation featured designer spotlights, behind-the-scenes visuals and the grand reveal of costumes on the big screen.
The event was attended by Delano Seiveright, state minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Kingston and St Andrew Mayor Andrew Swaby and Peter Mullings, Deputy director of marketing at the Jamaica Tourist Board who all endorsed the presentation and Carnival in Jamaica 2026.
