Canopy answers ‘SOS’
Insurance company spreads cheer to children relocated after Melissa damages their Montego Bay home
The visit held special significance, as several of the children now at the St Andrew facility have been temporarily relocated from their regular home at the Montego Bay SOS facility, which sustained significant damage during the passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 28.
Members of Canopy’s leadership team spent time reading stories, playing games, and engaging the children in holiday activities.
Volunteers also presented the children with toys, books, puzzles, and other gifts. In addition to the day’s activities the company donated $1 million to support the rebuilding efforts at the Montego Bay home and to assist with ongoing maintenance at the Stony Hill location as part of its Canopy Cares corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
“Our team looks forward to our Canopy Cares initiatives because they allow us to give back in a meaningful and personal way,” said Oliver Tomlinson, chief executive officer of Canopy Insurance.
“This year’s CSR initiative was especially meaningful for us. Knowing that these children were displaced after the hurricane reinforced our desire to help restore a sense of joy, stability, and togetherness during a difficult time,” added Tomlinson.
Representatives of SOS Children’s Village expressed gratitude for the visit, as they pointed to the positive impact of consistent community support as it continues repairs to the Montego Bay home.
