Uncle Nally to focus on 2026 Classic season after strong showing in Starters Trophy
Uncle Nally, the two-year-old bay colt trained by Robert Pearson, will focus on the 2026 Classic season following his impressive win in the $1.01-million Starters Trophy on Sunday, December 14.
The bay colt, bred by Successful Native out of the Corinthian mare Kit De Luca, dominated the Maiden Special Weight contest for native-bred three-year-olds over 4 furlongs (800m), winning by 3 ¼ lengths with a time of 48.2 (24.2 x 36.0).
Speaking to the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide, Pearson praised
Uncle Nally’s progress.
“He ran a couple of times before, he wasn’t really ready but he kept on getting better at exercise. I knew he had an excellent chance based on the distance and the competition but he is really a green horse and I am not going to run him back until next year,” Pearson said.
Pearson outlined his plans for Uncle Nally’s 2026 campaign: “I am going to take my time with him and put him through the regular Classic series. I will wait on a non-winners of two race for next year.”
With Tevin Foster in the saddle, Uncle Nally, running with the blinkers off and visor on, broke off well at the start of the race and disputed the early lead along with Another Links (Dane Dawkins),
Mo Pai (Dane Nelson), and Wah A Gwaan (Shane Ellis).
As the runners sorted themselves out crossing the dumpy rails, Uncle Nally came through and took control of the race and drew away for an easy win. Mohanlal (Tajay Suckoo) was second and
Mo Pai was third.
“The time of the race was decent based on the strong headwind and so it was a good run. He knows the straight very well, he ran well out of the straight the first time and we had expected a winning performance from him,” Pearson said.
