Free entry to Mobay United clash against Waterhouse at Jarrett Park
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Montego Bay United will reward their fans by allowing free general admission for Sunday’s Jamaica Premier League game against Waterhouse FC at Jarrett Park, says club chairman Yoni Epstein.
Montego Bay will play their first game in the city since the passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 28. Following extensive damage to their official home, the Montego Bay Sports Complex, the club will temporarily play games at Jarrett Park.
As a ‘thank you’ gesture, the club decided to ‘fly the gates’, Epstein said in a video posted on the club’s social media page.
Jarrett Park had been the premier sports venue in Montego Bay since the 1950s when the property was gifted to the city by the Kerr-Jarrett family. It was the home for teams from St James playing in national club football, including former champions Violet Kickers, Seba United and Wadadah FC.
Epstein thanked fans for their “continued support to the team throughout everything here with Hurricane Melissa”, adding that “we have all been affected in many different ways.”
Montego Bay have played three games since the resumption of the competition, all of them in Kingston, including Monday’s 1-0 win over Arnett Gardens at the refurbished Anthony Spaulding Complex.
Epstein said, “after several weeks of no football (in Montego Bay), as a team we have worked tirelessly, day and night, to ensure we can bring football back to western Jamaica and the iconic giant park.”
He urged the supporters to turn out in their numbers.
“We just want to say, come out and support the team, support the club, support the city and thank you from the club and the players and the staff,” he
