Melissa-ravaged Treasure Beach ambush Portmore in JPL return
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Treasure Beach made a winning return to action in the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday, ambushing Portmore United 2-0 at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex.
The St Elizabeth-based club were given an additional two weeks to prepare for their return to the competition after members of the team, and the coaching and management staff, suffered serious losses during Hurricane Melissa which made landfall in the southwest of the island on October 28.
Jhanni Flemmings scored in the 61st minute and Daniel Hardy in time added at the end of the second half as Treasure Beach moved up to 11th place with their third win of the season, their first-ever against Portmore.
Meanwhile, Waterhouse FC rebounded from arguably their worst loss in years to beat Montego Bay United 1-0 at Jarrett Park, knocking the latter off the top of the points table.

Humbled by last week’s 2-1 defeat to promoted Spanish Town Police, which extended their winless run to eight games, Waterhouse FC put in a gritty display to edge Montego Bay in the latter’s first game in front of home fans since October.
In the meantime, Racing United took over the JPL lead on goal difference over Montego Bay after a 0-0 draw against Harbour View.
Mount Pleasant and defending champions Cavalier both rebounded from losses to beat Spanish Town Police and Chapelton Maroons respectively while Dunbeholden FC beat Tivoli Gardens 1-0.
At Jarrett Park, Rivaldo Mitchell’s 35th minute goal was the difference between two teams that failed to inspire confidence on a bumpy field.
Mitchell fired past goalkeeper Jaheim Williams from the left side into the far corner in one of the few instances of quality in the game and Colorado Murray, one of the senior players for Waterhouse, said afterwards: “This one feels even sweeter than at home… we lost three games in a row and to come to MoBay on the road and win it shows we worked really hard.”
Mt Pleasant, who were edged 1-0 by Racing United midweek, hammered Spanish Town Police 5-0 with Raheem Edwards and substitute Tajay McIntosh both scoring braces.
Cavalier shook off back-to-back losses to beat Chapelton 3-0 with Chad James getting a double.
Nicholas Nelson came off the bench to score for Dunbeholden in the 60th minute to give them their third win of the season.
Molynes United extended their unbeaten run to three games after beating Arnett Gardens FC 3-1 with Tyrique Wilson scoring a first half brace, in the eighth and 14th minutes. Samson Oke made it 3-0 in the 40th minute with Joel Jones pulling a goal back for Arnett in the 60th minute.
