WATCH: Barnswell honoured for rescuing abducted six-year-old
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Councillor for the Hayes Division, Scean Barnswell has been honoured by the Clarendon Municipal Corporation after he and his wife rescued a six-year-old girl who was reportedly abducted from her school in the parish earlier this month.
The award was presented on Friday night during the Clarendon Municipal Corporation’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony by the Mayor of May Pen, Joel Williams.
“We could not ask for anything better from a citizen of our parish, someone who has saved a life, a baby, a six-year-old child. So, Barnswell, we want to say to you and your wife this evening, thank you very much for what you have done,” Mayor Williams said.
Among those present to witness the presentation were Member of Parliament for Clarendon South Eastern, Pearnel Charles Jr, and other municipal representatives.
The child, six-year-old Anka Glasgow of Inglewood Drive, Victoria Avenue, Clarendon, was reported missing from her school in early December. Reports indicate that Barnswell and his wife later spotted a man walking with a young child along the Bustamante Highway and, sensing that something was wrong, intervened.
Their swift actions led to the safe recovery of the child and the apprehension of the suspect, who is now in police custody.
