Driver accused of withholding $313,000 from employer
MONTEGO BAY, St James — What started as a routine delivery job has landed 23-year-old Jordaine Young in hot water. He is accused of failing to hand over more than $300,000 to his employer.
Young appeared in the St James Parish Court Wednesday before Judge Kaysha Grant-Pryce charged with larceny as a servant.
While working as a driver for a local construction company, Young reportedly handled six deliveries between October and November.
For each delivery he was supposed to hand over $60,000 to his employer, which would have totalled $360,000 for all six deliveries. During a seventh delivery a truck tyre needed urgent repair. The complainant allegedly instructed Young to use part of the money for the repair. Young reportedly paid $47,000 for the tyre, but never handed over the remaining $313,000.
When confronted on November 5 about the missing money, Young allegedly said, “Bossy, mi nuh have all of the money; and mi a go collect it and let you get it tomorrow.”
The complainant’s multiple attempts to recover the funds proved futile.
The matter was reported to the police, resulting in Young’s arrest and charge.
On Wednesday Judge Grant-Pryce ordered a social enquiry report and deferred sentencing to February 12, 2026.
Young’s bail was extended.
