Krystle Thorpe: Building a life of purpose, one client at a time
WITH warmth, grace, and a quiet strength that instantly puts her clients at ease, Krystle Thorpe has become a shining example of what it means to serve with heart. Over the past decade, the Sagicor Life advisor has built a career rooted in purpose, where financial planning is intertwined with helping families secure peace of mind and confidence for the future. Today, she continues to make a meaningful impact as part of Sagicor Life’s New Kingston branch.
At 37 years old, Thorpe’s life is a story of purpose, perseverance, and people. Growing up on Harriman’s Close in St Andrew, the former student of The Queen’s School learnt early the value of hard work and determination. She went on to earn a degree in business management (marketing) at The University of the West Indies, a foundation that would later serve her well in a career she never imagined.
Raised in a single-parent household with her mother and five siblings, Thorpe credits her mother as her first example of inner strength and sacrifice.
“I watched my mom do all the heavy lifting to make sure we always had what we needed,” she recollected. “Early on, I knew I wanted more than what I saw her have, and that shaped my focus and determination.”
Before joining Sagicor, Thorpe worked as a marketing officer at a naturopathic medical office until a chance encounter changed her life.
“One day a lady from Sagicor came in as a customer. I asked if there were any openings, and she asked if I’d consider selling insurance. Initially, I said, ‘Nah!’ ” Thorpe laughed.
At the time, she thought insurance was something everyone was doing and not something she could envision herself in. However, that brief exchange opened the door, and Thorpe ended up assisting that same agent two days a week for one year, learning all she could about the profession. With that experience she took the leap, passed the Financial Services Commission required ordinary long-term and equity exam, and began her journey as a Sagicor Life financial advisor.
Ten years later, she never looked back.
“Choosing this industry has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” she said. “There have been highs and lows, but through perseverance and faith in Jesus, I’ve overcome challenges and continue to grow every day.”
That growth is evident. Thorpe is a qualifying and life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, having qualified every year since she began in 2015, owed to her consistency, excellence, and care for clients. Beyond accolades, she values the relationships she’s built. “Many of my clients have become my friends,” she shared.
Her success, however, was not without struggle. In her 20s, Thorpe faced one of her most difficult chapters — a painful divorce. “It was an incredibly challenging time mentally,” she admitted. “I felt shame, embarrassment, and sometimes even like a failure. But coming through that made me stronger. It taught me resilience and showed me that I could rise, no matter how hard life hit.”
Today, Thorpe is happily remarried and grounded in her faith and community. She balances her thriving career with her role as a wife and active church member, a life she describes as “rich with purpose”.
Looking ahead, Thorpe hopes to transition into management, mentoring the next generation of financial advisors. “I want to inspire others to care deeply, act with integrity, and remember that at the heart of this business are real people and real lives.”
When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave, her answer is simple yet profound. “It’s not about how many policies I write, it’s about the lives I touch. I want my clients to feel seen, understood, and supported as they pursue their dreams. That’s the kind of impact I want to leave behind.”
