14 notable Jamaicans join calls for sustained Melissa recovery efforts in PSA
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, there is a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) aimed at reinforcing sustained effort for Jamaica’s recovery in the festive season and beyond.
The PSA, produced by Social Impact Media, a division of Bissoon Production Limited, in partnership with GDFILMS Production Company Ltd, brings together leading voices from Jamaica’s creative, media and production sectors to deliver a message centred on hope, rebuilding and shared responsibility following the devastation caused by the Category 5 storm.

The project seeks to keep national recovery efforts at the forefront of public consciousness through the festive season and into 2026.
Produced in collaboration with acclaimed cinematographer Garreth M Daley of GDFILMS Company Ltd and international production house Phase 3 Productions, the concept was developed by Bissoon Production Limited through Social Impact Media in response to the need for unified, consistent public communication during national recovery, according to a press release.
Former Miss World and television host Yendi Phillipps, international comedian and radio host Christopher “Johnny” Daley and award winning media and event host, producer and director, Debbie Bissoon.
The release noted that the initiative follows previous social impact campaigns, including the No Violence in Love to promote healthy relationships and to raise awareness around domestic violence, particularly among young people.
Guided by the Social Impact Media principle of creating content for social good, the PSA was developed to encourage sustained national support. Executive Producer Debbie Bissoon assembled a cross-section of respected national figures, tapping 13 prominent voices to participate.

“We recorded over two days and it was an energy of togetherness throughout. When I called these amazing folks who were already doing their part in affected parishes, they were more than happy to join the mission. We all understood that joining voices in a time like this was necessary to keep the energy of sustained support going”, noted Bissoon.
She added: “We all gave our time and resources to this PSA. Delano of Phase 3 did not hesitate to give us the space and when I contacted GD and told him of the script I’d written he was all green light. We had created previous impactful pieces together like No Violence in Love and Beyond the Stage. I finalized the participants, got the editor Micheal Burbridge of Maleless films, makeup by Charissa Zoe and also Trish McDonald on board and tied the pieces together, because that’s what we do, utilize our strengths for social impact and when it comes to our home Jamaica, we rise to the occasion. As a country we have already started to move forward stronger.”
Video director GD Films Company Limited stated, “our goal was to create something that connected. The PSA is about calling on the support and resilience of the Jamaican people as we move forward together”
The team hopes the PSA will resonate in Jamaica at home and worldwide also that it will be shared as a reminder that together, Jamaica will rise again.
