Antiguan gospel-reggae artiste Enoch gets into the Christmas spirit
Antiguan gospel-reggae artiste Enoch says Christmas is his favourite time of the year.
He says the season is special because it reminds him of love, sharing and giving back to the less fortunate.
The youngster, who is currently in Jamaica, performed at two events on the weekend. On Friday, he performed in Trench Town, and then on Saturday, he performed Oh Holy Night, a collaboration with gospel minister Carlene Davis, at the Fun in the Son relief concert in New Market, St Elizabeth.
“Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Not only is it the celebration of the birth of Jesus, but I was also born on Christmas Day, so this season is very special and exciting for me. Christmas reminds me of love, giving, and sharing with others, and that is what my music is about,” Enoch, who turns 12 on December 25, told Observer Online.
Enoch spoke about sharing the stage with Davis.
“Performing Oh Holy Night with Minister Carlene Davis was like a dream come true. At first, I was nervous, but once we started singing, I felt really good. Singing with her in front of a live audience was an amazing experience, and I am truly grateful that she gave me that opportunity,” he said.
He continued, “Performing at the hurricane relief show was very meaningful to me. I was happy to have the chance to help raise money to rebuild the church. The building still had no electricity, so we had to use a generator. There was no roof, and all the windows had been blown out. Even with all of that, the community came together, and everyone was smiling and supporting each other. While we were singing, the generator actually cut out, but we just kept right on singing. That moment showed me how strong people can be when they come together, and I was proud to be part of it.”
Enoch’s current single is For Christmas, No More Me Me. It is featured on his Christmas EP titled Enoch’s Christmas Songs, which was produced by Noel Howell.
Enoch grew up in the church in his community of Jennings Village in St Mary’s, Antigua. He attends the St Joseph Academy.
