Clarendon cop not licensed to carry firearm arrested after ammo seizure
KINGSTON, Jamaica—A police constable is among two men arrested following the seizure of four 9mm rounds of ammunition at the cop’s residence in Rhymesbury, Clarendon on Sunday.
It is understood that police personnel were conducting surveillance at the funeral service of Patrick Thompson, who was shot and killed in Agro Park, Four Paths, Clarendon, on September 24, 2025.
While at the burial site, the cops reportedly observed a man with a bulge in his waistband. Upon their approach, the man allegedly removed a black handgun from his waistband and handed it to another man, who then ran off and escaped into nearby bushes.
The man was accosted by the police and identified himself as a police constable assigned to the Specialised Operations branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The constable reportedly told the lawmen on duty that he handed the firearm to his cousin.
Police said the constable is not a licensed firearm holder and was not assigned a service keep-and-care firearm.
The alleged cousin was also accosted by the police but denied receiving any firearm from the constable.
A search of the immediate area was reportedly conducted, however, the firearm was not recovered.
The constable’s premises was later searched, during which four 9mm rounds were reportedly found in a black-and-green knapsack containing his JCF identification card.
Both the constable and his alleged cousin were arrested and taken to the May Pen Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing.
