KSAMC warns against destruction of entertainment billboards
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is warning the public against the destruction of entertainment billboards.
The warning follows reports of deliberate destruction of billboards advertising entertainment events.
According to the municipal authority, the most recent incident was reported on Waterloo Road, across from South Avenue, earlier Tuesday.
KSAMC condemned the behaviour, describing it as unacceptable, and called on individuals involved to cease the actions immediately.
The corporation is urging members of the public who witness such acts to assist authorities by taking photographs, where it is safe to do so, and to report the incidents to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
In condemning the acts, Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, stressed the broader impact of the vandalism on an already strained entertainment sector. He noted that the industry, like several others, is still feeling the effects of Hurricane Melissa that hit the island on October 28.
“Stop it!” Mayor Swaby said. “The entertainment sector, like many other industries, is already feeling the impact of Hurricane Melissa. Acts like these are unhelpful and only increase costs for party promoters who are already under pressure. We have to be sensitive to the wider consequences of our actions.”
KSAMC emphasised that it will not tolerate the destruction of legally placed promotional material and warned that where offenders are identified, the matters will be reported to the police for appropriate action.
