Worth The Wait
It’s the start of a new chapter for Jhanielle and Renard. (Photo: Yorkali Walters)

Worth The Wait

And darling, this is more than anything I felt before

You’re everything that I want

But I didn’t think I’d find

Someone who was worth the wait

Of all the years of my heartbreak

But I know now I found the one I love

I Guess I’m In Love by Clinton Kaine

What began with early-morning discussions and desk-side treats blossomed into true love for Jhanielle Powell and Renard Anderson, who exchanged vows on September 21, 2025, at the University Chapel at The University of the West Indies, Mona campus.

The opening scene of the love story unfolded on September 8, 2021 where Jhanielle, then a junior reporter for CVM News, first encountered Renard, a producer for CVM at Sunrise. His intellect and kindness left a lasting impression.

“He would each morning strike up a conversation based on what was in the newspaper. Invariably, it was current affairs or social issues-related that would start an intense discussion or debate,” Jhanielle shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

“Shortly after, he started leaving candies on my desk that he knew I liked. I found that endearing. Plus, he was confident, very supportive of his friends and outgoing.”

A year into their friendship, they began dating. The turning point came during a bout with COVID.

“When I was sick with COVID-19, he brought me breakfast and groceries when I ran out or couldn’t go for them myself. And he did it repeatedly, no complaint, time and time again. And that pretty much sums up the kind of man he is,” Jhanielle revealed.

“The proposal itself was a production,” said Jhanielle. “He took me to a beautiful house in Red Hills complete with a private balcony theatre. When the short film he had me star in earlier that year began to play, I knew something was up. The climax came when the screen flashed ‘Over to you, Renard’. He led me to the living room where our friends held up ‘Will You Marry Me?’ signs. After his speech, he proposed. The final, happy shock was seeing my parents and more friends who had arrived just for the occasion. I cried my eyelashes off!”

Less than a year later, the couple had their dream wedding. Jhanielle, radiant in a pearl sheath gown by TWOriginals, was escorted halfway up the aisle by her parents, Maureen and Mark Powell. Accompanied by the uplifting tones of New Every Morning by Ryan Ofei, she completed her walk alone towards Renard.

Pastor Onell Montaque officiated the ceremony.

The final scene of their picture-perfect wedding unfolded at the reception, held at Alhambra Inn. Following dinner and toasts from loved ones, Jhanielle received a truly touching surprise: Renard serenaded her with a performance of I Guess I’m in Love by Clinton Kane.

“He had never played the keyboards before, and yet he spent months learning it just to perform it for me at our reception,” Jhanielle recalled. The formalities continued with the cutting of their wedding cake and first dance as husband and wife to Justin Bieber’s Devotion.

The newly-weds honeymooned at RIU Ocho Rios.
