Pocket Rocket Foundation takes Christmas cheer to children in Ewarton
LAUGHTER, music, and excitement filled the Windalco Sports Complex in Ewarton on Saturday, December 20, as the Pocket Rocket Foundation hosted the first of its two annual Christmas treats, bringing cheer to children and families in the community.
Children were treated to an afternoon of entertainment, games, refreshments, and gift distribution, as the foundation continues its mission of creating joyful and memorable experiences for young people during the holiday season.
Founder and chairwoman of the Pocket Rocket Foundation, track icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, said the initiative was particularly important following a challenging year for many young people.
“It has been a difficult year for many of our nation’s children, so this was our way of showing up as the Pocket Rocket Foundation and ensuring they had a memorable holiday season,” Fraser-Pryce said. “We host these treats simply to put smiles on the children’s faces.”
The Christmas treat was made possible through the support of corporate partners, including Nike, Grace Foods, Digicel, Excelsior, Popeyes, Ondre’s Auto Sales, Sanmerna Paper Products, and Toyota Jamaica.
The Ewarton celebration marked the opening of the foundation’s Christmas outreach, with the second treat set for Boxing Day, December 26, on Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive, formerly Ashoka Road, in Waterhouse, Kingston. The Ewarton treat is in its fifth year and the Waterhouse treat is in its 18th year.
The Pocket Rocket Foundation uses sport, education, and community-based initiatives to uplift children across the island, with its annual Christmas treats remaining a highlight of its outreach efforts.
