ISSA Champions Cup expected to add four teams to competition
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The number of teams taking part in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Champions Cup could be increased by four with the addition of the finalists in both the Ben Francis and Walker Cup competitions.
Sources have told Observer Online that the organisers of the competition have decided to add the four to the competition that is set to be played in January.
Clarendon College and Cornwall College from the Rural Area Ben Francis Cup and St Catherine High and Mona High from the Urban Area Walker Cup would be added.
The Champions Cup, which started in 2014, was originally scheduled to start on November 12th and end on November 29th featuring the top four teams from both the daCosta Cup and the Manning Cup, playing against each other, at least in the first round.
The competition, like all others under the ISSA umbrella, was however rescheduled due to Hurricane Melissa and a decision was taken to play it in January along with the Olivier Shield between the winners of the daCosta Cup and Manning Cup as well as the junior football competitions.
Glenmuir High, daCosta Cup finalists, are the two-time defending champions. ISSA is expected to announce the schedule early in January.
