Portland man slapped with murder and gun charges
PORTLAND, Jamaica — A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition following the fatal shooting of a man in Orange Bay, Portland on Friday, December 19.
Dead is 42-year-old Joel Hall, a fisherman of Forty Acre in the community.
Charged is Richard Brown, otherwise called “Oraine” or “Gaza”, a machine operator of the same community.
It is alleged that about 11:20 pm, Hall was at a wake in his community where he was approached by Brown, who shot him twice before fleeing the scene on foot. Hall was assisted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A report was made to the police and an investigation was launched. Brown was later apprehended and subsequently charged after he was positively identified on Wednesday, December 24.
His court date is being finalised.
