Jackson welcomes security operations in SSL fraud case
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Spokesman on National Security and Member of Parliament Fitz Jackson has welcomed the start of security operations linked to the investigation into the Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) fraud case, describing the move as necessary but long overdue.
In a release, Jackson commended members of the country’s security agencies for their determination and persistence in advancing the long-running probe which centres on what he noted is a massive multi-billion-dollar fraud.
“The announcement of operations today by the various security agencies in the SSL fraud matter is welcomed, though long overdue in coming,” Jackson said. He added that the Jamaican public is now expecting concrete outcomes, including early arrests and the successful prosecution of all those involved.
Jackson pointed out that the alleged criminal actions have caused significant hardship, particularly for ordinary Jamaicans who lost their life savings, resulting in serious declines in their quality of life.
He also acknowledged the sustained pressure from Jamaicans at home and in the diaspora, whose continued calls for accountability, he said, helped to keep the matter in the public spotlight.
According to Jackson, ongoing advocacy remains critical to ensuring that justice is delivered and that the rule of law is applied without fear or favour, including against individuals who operate from positions of power.
