Legacy Isle blasts to victory in Stakes record
The Rohan Crichton-conditioned Legacy Isle once again showcased his exceptional sprinting ability, effortlessly outpacing his rivals to claim the $2-million Christopher “Chris” Armond Memorial Sprint at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Raddesh Roman, Legacy Isle battled with Pack Plays (Dane Nelson) for the early lead, but once he seized control heading into the half-mile turn, it was smooth sailing.
Legacy Isle pulled away from his opponents entering the straight and surged to a commanding 12-length victory. Desert of Malibu, with Dane Dawkins on board, finished second, while California Crown, ridden by Tevin Foster, took third. Legacy Isle’s winning time of 1:04.2 was a new Stakes record for the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest.
It was second winner on the day for Roman as he also won aboard Kusmi for trainer Anthony Nunes in the seventh race. Nunes also saddled Prodigious Power (Delroy Beharie) in the Dye Job Sprint for two winners as well.
Also with two winners was trainer Barrington Bernard. Bernard saddled Ascend (Richie Shakes) in the sixth race and Don Kwesi (Demar Williams) in the Vestia Trophy.
Racing continues on Thursday.
