Racing United seek to extend lead in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leaders Racing United will be going after a second win this season over former champions Arnett Gardens when they meet at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Monday, set to kick off at 7:30 pm.
Racing United, who are atop the tables on goal-difference over Montego Bay United, both on 26 points, can claim sole leadership with at least a draw.
Tivoli Gardens will hope to end a two-game losing run when they host relegation-threatened Chapelton Maroons at the Edward Seaga Complex starting at 3:00 pm.
Racing United dominated the first-round meeting between the teams, thrashing a slow-starting Arnett Gardens 5-1, and will be confident of securing another three points against an opponent that has struggled for goals this season.
With the exception of their 10-2 win over Spanish Town Police, Arnett Gardens have managed only 13 goals in their other 10 games played while conceding 21 goals.
Arnett Gardens, who have placed third in back-to-back seasons, are perilously close to the relegation zone, on 12 points, only goal-difference ahead of 13th place, and a lopsided loss could see them drop into the bottom two.
Racing United have lost once in their last 13 games and have beaten both Mount Pleasant FA and Cavalier SC in back-to-back games, and should be able to get the better of Arnett Gardens.
Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens’ season has been inconsistent. After winning just once in their first seven matches, they followed up with a three-game winning streak that put them on course for a top-six finish, only to lose their last two.
They will hope to avenge their first-round loss to Chapelton Maroons, who are three points and five places below them in the tables and winless in their last eight games.
