Big party at Yesterday Best of the 90s
From fireworks to non-stop dancing and good vibes, it was a celebratory mood once you got inside the Christmas edition of Wray & Nephew Yesterday: Best of the 90s, which unfolded on Boxing Day at Mas Camp.
Sitting in non-moving traffic for any extended period would make any partygoer grimace, but once they got inside the event, those worries were forgotten.
The promoters went into overdrive by assembling a cast of well-known and experienced DJs, including DJ Nicco, ZJ Liquid, DJ Marvin and Coppershot’s DJ Marc Chin, who each excited the crowd during their respective presentations.
DJ Marc Chin dusted off a 1995 #1 Anything For You by Snow and Friends which had the ladies singing along, but Slew Dem by Capleton; Hypocrites, a 1998 chart-rider by Beenie Man; and No Time to Gaze from Sizzla’s 1997 album Black Woman and Child added to the furnace that blazed.
“The vibes and the overall musical delivery from everybody was top tier. Honestly, it seemed to be the party of the season. Although I was a DJ at the party, I definitely had fun watching my colleagues playing, and I am highly anticipating the next staging,” DJ Marc Chin told the Jamaica Observer.
DJ Nicco’s set was just as exciting.
“The thing with Wray & Nephew Yesterday: Best of the 90s is that it’s not about the hype or the show-off, stand-up, bottle-popping scene. It’s about people really coming out to party, dance, and to have a good time,” said DJ Nicco.
His set was riddled with high-energy dancing songs like Dance by RDX, Dip Again by Elephant Man, and Tun it Up by Capleton.
“Tonight’s staging was amazing and Mas Camp, as you can see, is packed to capacity. Everyone came out to have a good time. I loved it,” DJ Nicco shared.
There were also good sets from ZJ Liquid and DJ Marvin, who transported patrons back in time to relive the songs that they grew up on.
Promoter Gyete Ghartey was smiling from ear to ear.
“The support was good and we really and truly appreciate that. What made this staging special were the presentations from these exceptional DJs on the line-up. The event was highly anticipated because the last one was held in the summer. The fireworks were also a part of the presentation that patrons enjoyed, and they genuinely looked like they had a good time,” said Ghartey.
He added: “This one being on a holiday, patrons came out early and they had the energy all night.”
