Kyle Butler appointed Phoenix Chapelton director of football
Following his debut as head coach of Vauxhall High School, Kyle Butler has been appointed director of football at Phoenix Chapelton Maroons.
Phoenix Academy owner Craig Butler confirmed to the Jamaica Observer that his son, Kyle, is now a part of Phoenix Chapelton Maroons, of which his daughter Kaycie Butler is the president.
“Throughout the history of fathers and sons there has always been a battle for ascension from the young and acceptance of guidance of the experienced. Yet the greatest fallacy in life is believing that all things that can be learned can be taught,” Craig said.
“I have invested many years into my son’s football education as a player and as a coach. He has proven himself able and intelligent and has added to what he has learned from me and his experiences internationally.
“It is only fitting that the son returns to the pride to help us to get to the next level. We together are stronger than apart and his work at Vauxhall speaks volumes.
“He will be in charge of all recruitment and player development as well as the attacking coach for our midfielders and strikers at both our clubs Phoenix Chapelton Maroons and sister club Phoenix All Stars Football Academy in St Ann. We look forward to an improvement through additional minds working with our exceptional young talent.”
Butler and his Phoenix Academy have produced a number of footballers for the international market, most notably Leon Bailey, now at Italian club Roma, and Dujuan Richards at English club Chelsea.
In August 2025 Phoenix Academy acquired Premier League club Chapelton Maroons, but the club has started the season poorly, as they are in the relegation zone in 13th spot on 12 points.
Phoenix Chapelton have won their first three games of the season but have now gone 11 games without a win and in danger of relegation.
Only recently has Head Coach Donovan Duckie made it clear that they need to dip into the transfer market to fill some key areas as they try to stay in the league and push for a top-six play-off spot.
