Road users in eastern parishes urged to exercise caution due to heavy rainfall
ST ANN, Jamaica—The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising road users in the eastern parishes of St Mary, Portland as well St Ann to exercise caution in travelling along some corridors at this time due to persistent rainfall that has resulted in flooding, blocked drains and siltation impacting roads.
Manager Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, in a statement on Friday, said that the impacted areas are mostly along the coast between Ocho Rios, St Ann and Port Antonio, Portland.
“In St Mary, flooding is being experienced in Rio Nuevo, Stewart Town and Port Maria. The Mother Ford drain in Annotto Bay is also at full capacity,” he said.
Shaw said that the main road through St Margarets Bay, Orange Bay and Windsor Castle are among the corridors in Portland being impacted.
Motorists are being reminded not to attempt to use heavily flooded roads, while pedestrians are being urged not to use such corridors.
The eastern parishes are being impacted by rains associated with a trough.
