Domino action heats up as finale draws close
THE National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) is gearing up for an electrifying grand finale to their senior citizens’ tournament, with regional competitions heating up across the island.
According to Humbert Davis, president of NADB, “The energy is palpable, and we’re expecting an intense showdown as the regions vie for the top spot.”
Region three — comprising Kingston, St Thomas, Portland, and St Mary — will clash at Lynch Park in Buff Bay on January 20 while Region two — consisting of St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth — will face off at St Elizabeth Technical High School on February 5.
Davis expressed confidence in the tournament’s growth, attributing it to the dedication of the National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC) and the support of domino enthusiasts nationwide.
“The NADB/NCSC Domino Tournament has become a premier event, showcasing the skill and strategy of our senior citizens,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
As the competition reaches its climax, fans are eagerly anticipating the emergence of the top teams. With powerhouse parishes like Kingston and St Andrew in the mix, Davis said the stage is set for a thrilling conclusion.
“It’s going to be a real nail-biter but that’s what makes dominoes so exciting — anyone can win on their day,” Davis said.
The winners of the regional competitions will advance to the national grand finale during which they will compete for the coveted title.
With the NABD’s commitment to promoting dominoes and community engagement, Davis affirmed this tournament is sure to leave a lasting impact on Jamaican sports and culture.
“The tournament has seen participation from various age groups, with the senior citizens showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. The NABD is proud of the tournament’s growth and looks forward to many more successful years,” Davis stated.
Davis encouraged fans to come out and support their teams, emphasising the importance of community involvement in the tournament’s success.
“We invite everyone to come out and experience the excitement of dominoes,” he said.
