Century of wins for Michael Marlowe
MICHAEL Marlowe, a seasoned trainer, reached a major milestone on Saturday, saddling his 100th career winner on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park.
The achievement came in the third race during which Rock-Ola, ridden by Dane McKenzie, took the top spot in a thrilling finish, edging out stablemate Captain Fantastic (Phillip Parchment) by a nose.
The race was a Restricted Allowance contest for native-bred five-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two), and imported five-year-olds and upward maidens over six and a half furlongs (1,300m). Rock-Ola stopped the clock in 1:24.1.
Zulu Warrior won the $1.25-million Security Department Trophy feature, an Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over five furlongs (1,000m) straight.
Trained by Adrian Prince and ridden by apprentice Demar Williams, Zulu Warrior defeated Champion Bubbler (Tajay Suckoo) and Another One (Raddesh Roman) by five and three-quarter lengths while clocking 58 seconds.
Williams also won aboard Miss Braeton in the first race for trainer Ricardo Brown, for two winners on the day.
Racing continues on Saturday.
