Two shot dead in St Elizabeth amid curfew
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Even as police in St Elizabeth imposed a curfew in the Crawford district on Saturday evening following a murder there, another man was killed in the parish capital of Black River that night.
The first two murder victims in the parish for the new year were identified as Albert Smith and 47-year-old Basil Bruce.
In the first incident, about 9:00 pm Friday, Smith was allegedly shot dead at a party in the Crawford district by armed assailants.
In the second incident, about 10:00 pm Saturday, Bruce was reportedly at a house in New Town, Black River, with a relative when two armed men opened fire, killing him.
Following the first incident police imposed a 48-hour curfew in the Crawford district.
The curfew started at 6:00 pm Saturday, January 3 and is expected to end at 6:00 pm on Monday, January 5.
Police listed the boundaries as south along the coastline from Galleon Beach to another cul-de-sac. East along Crawford main road from the Primary School to a cul-de-sac at Galleon Beach. North from a cul-de-sac to the Crawford main road vicinity of the primary school, and west along an imaginary line from that cul-de-sac back to the starting cul-de-sac.
