G2K lauds historic reduction in murders
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Generation 2000 (G2K), the youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), is congratulating the people and Government of Jamaica, and the national security forces on the historic achievement of recording fewer than 700 murders in 2025.
The final figure, 673, is the lowest number in over three decades and the first time the annual figure has fallen below 700 since 1994.
Describing the reduction as a significant turning point in the nation’s ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime, G2K pointed to the value of strategic leadership, evidence-based policy and collective resolve in addressing one of Jamaica’s most pressing challenges.
“G2K commends the Most Honourable Dr Andrew Holness, prime minister of Jamaica, for his visionary and strategic leadership, which has been instrumental in shaping a comprehensive security architecture focused on innovation, accountability and community partnerships. Under his stewardship, Jamaica has seen a sustained downward trajectory in murders, a testament to the effectiveness of the Government’s direction and unwavering commitment to public safety,” the group said.
G2K also extended praise to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security and Peace, Dr Horace Chang, citing his deliberate, data-driven strategies, which the group said have guided coordinated efforts across the security landscape.
“His leadership has helped drive a remarkable reduction in violent crime and has helped restore trust and confidence among Jamaicans, especially our business leaders and young professionals in our national crime-fighting initiatives,” it added.
Citing what it described as the valour and dedication of the nation’s security forces, G2K highlighted the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), correctional officers, and other partners across the national security framework.
“Their tireless service, professionalism and commitment to protecting our citizens have been key contributors to this historic outcome,” G2K said.
In response to the development, President of Generation 2000 Shayne Kerr said: “Today’s crime statistics are not simply numbers; they represent lives saved, families preserved, and communities given hope. G2K salutes the Government and all members of Jamaica’s security forces for their courage, innovation and unwavering dedication. This achievement inspires confidence in our future and reinforces the belief that with strategic leadership and unified action, we can build a safer Jamaica for every citizen, especially our young professionals who are the future of this nation.”
