Candlelight vigil for Donald Oliver to be held at Statue Park on Thursday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A candlelight vigil will be held to celebrate the life and legacy of sports journalist Donald Oliver on Thursday, January 8th.
Set for Statue Park at the National Stadium, the vigil will begin at 7:00 pm and run until 9:00 pm.
Oliver passed away on Tuesday, December 30th, after complaining of chest pains.

His death, at 40 years old, came as a shock to the media fraternity and public, prompting an outpour of condolences from Government and Opposition representatives, sport organisations and social media users.
At the time of his death, Oliver was the audiovisual manager at the Jamaica Observer Media Group, having joined in August of 2025 following the closure of SportsMax.
An award-winning sports journalist and presenter, Oliver had also previously worked at CVM TV and TVJ, where he made his mark as a senior producer and high-profile commentator for over two decades.
