Consistent Tapit Good secures 4th career win
CONSISTENCY, patience, and confidence paid off for the connections of Tapit Good as the seven-year-old chestnut horse picked up his fourth career win from 45 starts in the sixth race on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The David Powell- conditioned Tapit Good, after three consecutive second-place finishes, dominated rivals over the five-furlong (1,000m) straight course, winning comfortably by four lengths ahead of Papa Gray (Phillip Parchment) and First Offense (Dane Dawkins).
The race was Division II of a three-year-old and upward Optional Claiming ($500,000-$400,000) spread that included six-year-olds and upward (non-winners of four) and native-bred five-year-olds (non-winners of three).
It was an even start for most of the runners in the race as Tapit Good, ridden by Shaheem Gordon, battled with Golden Syrup (Richie Shakes), Princess Ifiyah (Shavon Townsend), Radam (Tyrese Anderson), Jaguar (Christopher Mamdeen), and Magical Mood (Emelio McLean) in the early exchanges.
As the runners sorted themselves out crossing the dummy rails, Tapit Good seized control of the race and began to draw away from rivals. The chestnut horse cruised home easily in the end.
