Argentine hired to ‘re-energise’ Waterhouse, push for Concacaf qualification
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Waterhouse Football Club have turned to Argentine Javier Ainstein in a bid to re-energise the team and mount a serious push for Concacaf qualification in the second half of the Jamaica Premier League season.
In a release on Wednesday, the club shared that Ainstein has been appointed as head coach with immediate effect. The UEFA A licensed coach is tasked with injecting energy and ambition into the side which is currently sitting eighth in the standings.
The Argentine brings more than 15 years of coaching experience across both the CONMEBOL and Concacaf regions. Widely respected for his tactical insight and player development acumen, he has followed and studied the Jamaica Premier League for several years and has already settled quickly into the club’s culture at its Drewsland base, the club said.
According to the release, with the season entering a critical phase, the Waterhouse Football Club board of directors made the strategic decision to look beyond local borders in search of new ideas and renewed energy as the club targets a strong finish.
“This is one of our stated objectives for the season and we intend to achieve it,” said club president Donovan White. “We believe Coach Ainstein brings the experience, discipline, and competitive mindset required to reenergise the squad and make a serious push for one of the three Concacaf qualification places available this year.”
Chairman Bruce Bicknell echoed that confidence, stressing that Ainstein will also play a key role in shaping the squad during the current transfer window.
“We intend to use this transfer window wisely, in consultation with Coach Ainstein, to improve the overall quality and balance of the squad,” Bicknell said. “Our focus is firmly on climbing the points table and meeting our stated objectives for the season.”
The club said Ainstein’s appointment signals Waterhouse FC’s continued commitment to excellence, innovation and international best practices, as it seeks to build on its proud legacy and return to the pinnacle of regional competition.
Waterhouse FC will next be in action on Sunday at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium, featuring in the second game of a double-header at 7.30 pm, when they face defending champions Cavaliers SC in what promises to be a highly anticipated Jamaica Premier League encounter.
