Eastern Extravaganza makes a splash!
Promoters quash rumours about brawl between Skeng, Jahshii
Promoters of the New Year’s Day Eastern Extravaganza are countering narratives making rounds on social media that there was a brawl between Jahshii and Skeng during the former entertainer’s set.
“There was absolutely no fight between Jahshii and Skeng. [These claims] are all false news and we would like to clear the air on that matter,” Co-Director Judah Nugent said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Nugent indicated that an artiste and his entourage did attempt to get on the stage while Jahshii was performing; however, the security team did not allow it and a tussle ensued.
“The security got matters under control. If you even watch Jahshii’s performance, he was clueless as to what was happening at the side of the stage. We had gotten a cut-off time from the police, and all of that affected the time given,” the co-director explained.
“Again, neither Jahshii nor Skeng did anything,” he charged.
Nugent went on to say that the artiste Skippa, consequently, did not get to perform.
The show has been uploaded to the YouTube channel of Eastern Entertainment for fans’ enjoyment.
Besides the misconception, Nugent and the rest of the team lauded its execution.
The night saw a massive turnout of patrons who were treated to performances from other dancehall heavyweights, including Spragga Benz, Queen Ifrica, Sizzla, Pamputtae, Deep Jahi, and many others.
“The show was a huge success. The turnout was huge; majority of the booked artistes turned out with just a few being missing, but all in all the show [went well]. No cars were broken into or stolen, and no fights broke out. Patrons came out to enjoy the show and I must say they did just that,” he said.
Nugent also explained that planning for the 12th staging began on January 2, and that it will surpass the fun of this year’s edition. He provided some insight into some of the high points for the night.
“The highlight, for us, was seeing Spragga Benz gracing the stage for the first time and seeing him and Sizzla Kalonji going tune for tune; that was an amazing feeling. Also, Pinchers could do no wrong, and I must say Dunceman Jamal had the show in a frenzy. All the artistes did well, and I must commend them all for taking time out and being a part of the biggest one-night free show in East Kingston,” Nugent said, adding that he and his colleagues are currently planning the OOPS Blossoms & Brunch event set for April 26.
The promoter further extended gratitude for the tremendous support of Eastern Extravaganza.
“Thanks for being with us for the past 11 years. It’s an amazing feeling knowing that this show was built for the community, and now it’s there for the world to see. Thanks to our title sponsor Rum-Bar Rum for making it happen [and] all our associate sponsors. A big thank you [to]… Clearsound Productions; without you this couldn’t have happened. God bless you all and see you in 2027,” he said.
