Over 2,000 entries as Purewater/R Danny/JC meet begins Friday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The 32nd staging of the two-day Purewater/R Danny Williams/JC Development Meet kicks off the 2026 athletics season on Friday at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College (JC) and will be completed on Saturday.
The meet, described as the “must stop shop for athletes”, is one of the qualifying meets for the Boys and Girls Athletics Championships, set for March.
The 2026 staging features over 2,000 entries from across the island as the schools are eager to compete for what will be another hectic track season.
The opening day will have discus, javelin, triple jump, and 200m events, while Saturday will feature the 100m, 400m, 1500m, 5000m, and sprint hurdles (100mH, 110mH, 400mH) events, as well as shot put and other field events.
There will be four honourees this year in Peter Mullings, Robin Sproul, Devon Gray and Bob Austin.
Mullings is a former member of JC’s track and field management team and event coach and will be saluted for his more than 25 years of contribution.
Sproul will be honoured for his more than 30 years of contributions as part of the management and coaching team, and Gray as a former member of the management track and football teams.
Austin, known as “Tego”, will be honoured for his contributions as a former Manning Cup and hockey player, as well as his tireless work in facilitating academic scholarships and professional contracts for JC students.
