Jade-Ann Smith wins Triple Jump at UAB Blazer Invitational
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Excelsior High standout Jade Ann Smith of Florida A&M University (FAMU) set a new personal best (12.34m) to win the women’s triple jump at the UAB Blazer Invitational held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Alabama on Friday.
Smith, who started her second season, surpassed her previous best of 11.98m set last year.
Former Kingston College runner Kirk Dawkins, also of FAMU, won the men’s 600m in 1:18.39 seconds, while his teammate Tara Bert was second in the women’s 600m in 1:36.00 seconds.
At the Rod McCravy Invitational at the University of Kentucky, former national junior representative Britannie Johnson of Purdue, set a personal best 19.16m in the women’s weight throw, 10th best ever in school history.
Johnson’s mark beat her previous best 18.89m set at the Big 10 championships last year.
Britannie’s twin sister Britannia, is fifth on Purdue’s all-time list with 20.42m set in February 2025.
At the Virginia Commonwealth University Indoor Invitational, Rochele Solmon won the women’s shot put, throwing 15.01m.
