J’Calm releases sophomore album; Sean Paul and Tony Kelly among producers
Singer J’Calm says it was intentional to collaborate with high-profile acts and producers for his sophomore album Emotions, which was released on Friday.
The 20-year-old Clarendon native, whose real name is Jovane Nathaniel Gayle, told Observer Online exclusively, “It felt solid and intentional to have these collaborators joining on these projects. Everyone fits perfectly within the expression the album gives.”
Grammy-winning and multi-platinum-selling producer Tony “CD” Kelly and Billboard-charting international recording artiste Sean Paul are among the producers who contributed to the 13-track project.
Emotions, released via K-Licious/DubShot Records, features Ky-Mani Marley, Wayne Wonder, Nigy Boy and Khalia.
Commenting on the album, J’Calm said, “What I enjoyed most about working on this album is the fact that I get to share a version of myself I never have before, with creating this album.”
“Let me open up at least one more time again’, that was a phrase that kinda stuck out for most of the process.”
Tracks on Emotions include the title-track featuring Nigy Boy, Weekend featuring Ky-Mani Marley, Killamanjaro, They Don’t Know That featuring Khalia, Downtown featuring Wayne Wonder and Sweet Love (produced by Sean Paul).
Emotions blends elements of traditional reggae with J’Calm’s 21st-century delivery. The video for the album’s latest single Real Love, premiered on Friday on J’Calm’s YouTube channel.
“I felt very emotionally expressive and confident creating this body of work, and that’s what it is to me — sort of an emotional release,” said J’Calm.
