Maitland’s attorneys make no-case submission
Constable Noel Maitland should know today whether he has a case to answer in his murder trial in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston after a no-case submission was filed by his attorneys on Thursday.
The matter resumed Thursday following the Christmas break.
Barbadian King’s Counsel Larry Smith, who is one of five attorneys representing Maitland, argued on a number of points during his submission to trial Judge Leighton Pusey on Thursday as he sought to have the matter disposed of.
Justice Pusey decided to adjourn the matter in order to review the points put forward by Smith and return today, hopefully with a decision.
Maitland is on trial for murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse in relation to the July 12, 2022 disappearance of his social media influencer girlfriend Donna-Lee Donaldson.
Donaldson, who had been picked up from her house in St Andrew by Maitland on July 11 that year was last seen alive at the Chelsea Manor apartment complex where Maitland lived.
Prosecutors are seeking to have Maitland convicted, using a string of circumstantial evidence, including blood found on curtains and other things inside Maitland’s apartment.
The other attorneys representing Maitland are Chadwick Berry, Christopher Townsend, Sanjay Smith, and Kaysian Kennedy Sherman.
