St Elizabeth man charged in relation to Boxing Day murder
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder and other offences following the killing of a man on Boxing Day last year.
Rick Baker, otherwise called ‘Gullius’, a farmer of Holland Village, St Elizabeth, was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, assault at common law, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Dead is 25-year-old Darrieo Smith of Cuffies Pen district, Lacovia, St Elizabeth.
Smith was killed in his community on Friday, December 26.Reports from the Black River police are that about 3:00 am, Smith was walking along the main road in his community when he was attacked by Baker and two other men who opened gunfire, hitting him multiple times to the upper body. The police were alerted, and Smith was assisted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Baker and the other men reportedly escaped.
Baker later turned himself in and was positively identified.
A question-and-answer interview was conducted in the presence of his attorney, and he was subsequently charged.
His court date is being finalised.
