Alleged ‘digital predator’ now facing sexual offence charges
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man who is facing charges of possession of identity information and malicious communication saw his troubles deepen on Wednesday when he was hit with two additional charges during an appearance in the St James Parish Court.
Twenty-eight-year-old Timoy Spence is now accused of rape and procuring a female to have sexual intercourse.
At Wednesday’s hearing, the court was told that the corroborating officer’s statement regarding the new charges is still outstanding.
Spence was granted bail in the sum of $750,000 with up to three sureties for the original possession of identity information charge, along with strict conditions to report to a designated police station on specified days.
That matter was transferred to the St James Circuit Court, with the next mention set for April 23.
For the two new charges, Spence received the same bail under identical conditions and is expected to return to the Parish Court on February 5.
His bail for the malicious communication charge was also extended to February 5.
In that case, prosecutors allege that Spence weaponised sex tapes to manipulate and blackmail his victims. The court was told that Spence secretly recorded sexual encounters and later threatened to release the footage unless the partners complied with his sexual demands.
In the current case he is accused of sharing an explicit video of himself and a former partner via the messaging platform
WhatsApp, prompting the woman to report him to police.
Arrested on June 26, Spence initially refused to hand over his phone but complied after a production order was issued.
A forensic examination revealed identity information belonging to individuals overseas in his e-mail account, forming the basis of the possession of identity information charge.
The details of the two new charges were not disclosed in court.
Investigators described Spence as a digital predator, alleging he used fake accounts and multiple phone numbers online to keep hidden recordings of women, which he then leveraged to demand sexual favours under threat of exposure.
Spence is being represented by attorney-at-law Chumu Paris.
