Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin denies sexual assault allegations
American singer and pastor, Donnie McClurkin has denied sexual assault allegations made against him after a lawsuit was filed against him by his former assistant Giuseppe Corletto.
McClurkin, speaking on Facebook Live on Saturday, described the allegations made against him as ‘purely untrue’.
“It is unfortunate that such allegations have been lodged. I don’t understand the machinations of the young man’s mind. He is not young; he is 40-something years old. But I haven’t seen this fellow in 11 years, since 2015, and I haven’t spoken to him since that long.
People do things for different reasons; most of them are monetarily motivated, and it’s a shame because to proclaim yourself a victim of something that didn’t happen discredits the people that it has happened to, and it’s a shame, but one thing I do know is that truth will prevail and the disturbed minds of other people cannot prohibit the truth from speaking loudly,” he said.
The gospel singer said that, although the allegations have caused much controversy, he remains transparent and continues to hold up the standard of Christ.
“I transparently tell you that this is all fabricated and untrue, and I am praying for the gentleman that he regain some kind of lucid thought and give his life to the Lord,” McClurkin said.
The I Call You Faithful singer earlier this week issued a statement on social media disputing the allegations as untrue.
According to a report by NBC News, a lawsuit filed by Corletto alleged that he was struggling to reconcile his sexuality with his faith when he sought out McClurkin in 2003.
Corletto, who was 21 years old at the time, reportedly went to McClurkin’s church in Long Island, New York, after reading his autobiographical book, which described how God helped him overcome the “curse” of homosexuality.
He alleged that McClurkin began to molest him during “pray the gay away” spiritual sessions.
