28 firearms, 6,142 ammo seized in Kingston; soldier charged
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) who reportedly fled from cops investigating the last December seizure of 28 firearms and more than 6,142 rounds of ammunition at the Kingston Logistics Centre has been charged.
He is 36-year-old Odeen Lawrence of the Dublin Castle and Kintyre communities in St Andrew. Lawrence is charged with conspiracy to traffic prohibited weapons and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
The police said investigations into the wider seizure of the firearms and ammunition are ongoing, with additional charges expected.
The seizure, which the police have described as one of the largest arms hauls discovered at the Kingston Logistics Centre, was made on December 19, 2025.
In relation to Lawrence, reports indicate that about 5:30 pm, FNID personnel went to a premises in White Water Meadows, Spanish Town, St Catherine. On the officers’ arrival, Lawrence allegedly fled on foot, leaving behind a Honda Shuttle motor car, which was later seized.
Lawrence surrendered to the police on January 6, 2026. A search of the vehicle, conducted in his presence on January 7, reportedly uncovered a 9mm round of ammunition in the glove compartment. He was subsequently charged.
In the meantime, Director of FNID, Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe, said this seizure highlights the force’s mandate to protect the people of Jamaica.
“This investigation remains active as we work to dismantle the channels that facilitate the flow of illegal weapons into our communities. Our mission is to uphold the law without fear or favour, regardless of the status or profession of those involved. We will continue to use every resource at our disposal to bring those who threaten the nation’s security to justice,” said Superintendent Rowe.
Lawrence’s court date is being finalised.
